Cookie Policy
The very short version: we don't track you. Here's the detail.
Short version
This website does not set any tracking cookies. It does not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any third-party tracking. The only thing we store on your device is your chosen light/dark theme, and only if you click the theme toggle yourself. There is no consent banner because under UK law there is nothing to consent to.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website asks your browser to store. They are commonly used to remember preferences (e.g. "stay logged in"), to record analytics about how visitors use a site, or to track users across different websites for advertising. The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), together with the UK GDPR, require websites to get your consent before storing or accessing anything on your device, unless what is being stored is strictly necessary to provide a service you have asked for.
2. What this website actually stores on your device
a) No cookies of any kind
- No first-party cookies. Our Express server does not set any session, preference, analytics, or advertising cookies. You can verify this in your browser's developer tools under "Cookies".
- No third-party tracking cookies. We don't run Google Analytics, Google Ads, Facebook / Meta Pixel, LinkedIn Insight, Hotjar, Microsoft Clarity, TikTok pixel, or any other tracking script.
- No advertising cookies. We don't run ads on this site.
b) One single, strictly-necessary entry in browser storage
When you click the light / dark theme toggle in the top navigation, we save your choice to your browser's localStorage under the key eh_theme (value: "light" or "dark") so that the site opens in your preferred theme next time you visit.
This is treated as strictly necessary under PECR because:
- It only ever runs after you make an active, explicit choice (clicking the toggle).
- It exists solely to honour that preference.
- It is stored on your device only, in your own browser, and is never sent back to us.
- It is not used for tracking, profiling, or any analytics purpose.
You can clear it at any time by clearing site data in your browser. If you do, the site will simply use your operating system's prefers-color-scheme preference on your next visit.
3. Embedded third-party content
Some pages embed content from third parties. None of them set cookies on the experthousing.co.uk domain, but they do receive a request from your browser (which means they see your IP address), and they may set their own cookies on their own domain:
- Google Maps: the map embed on our Contact page is loaded from Google. Google may set its own cookies on the
google.comdomain when you interact with the map (e.g. zoom, pan). Google's behaviour is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. - Google Fonts: we load Inter and Poppins from
fonts.googleapis.comandfonts.gstatic.com. Per Google's documentation, the Google Fonts API does not set cookies. The request itself does, however, expose your IP address to Google. - Font Awesome (via cdnjs): we load the Font Awesome icon set from
cdnjs.cloudflare.com. This is a content delivery request; it does not set cookies, but Cloudflare sees your IP address.
If you do not want any third-party requests at all, a privacy-focused browser extension can block them. The site will still function (text and layout still load); only the embedded map and the custom typeface will fall back to defaults.
4. Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted on Namecheap, which records standard server access logs for every request (IP address, time, URL, response code, user-agent). These are not cookies and they do not store anything on your device. We use them only to keep the site running and detect abuse. They are described in more detail in our Privacy Policy.
5. How to control cookies and browser storage in your browser
You can clear or block cookies and browser storage at any time using your browser's built-in controls:
Most browsers also let you block all third-party requests, which will stop the Google Map and the CDN-loaded fonts and icons from loading.
6. Changes to this policy
If we ever introduce tracking cookies (for example, if we add analytics in future), we will update this policy first and present a clear, granular consent banner before any non-essential cookie or non-essential browser storage is set. We will not "opt you in" by default. The current version of this policy is always at experthousing.co.uk/cookies.
